The award-winning Clarendon Library came from humble beginnings, first opening in 1913 as an unstaffed deposit station in Markland's Drug Store on Clarendon Road. By 1954, it was a full-service BPL branch operating at its current location on Nostrand Avenue. The branch won an Art Commission Award for Excellence after its 1990 renovation, and it's easy to see why—Clarendon boasts a sky-lit reading room, distinctive window guards and gates, plus an outdoor recreational courtyard.
