Question on Walt Whitman
I was wondering what Walt Whitman’s religious upbringings were? We have talked a lot about him as a prophet-like figure, so I did not know what religious influences he had growing up.

I believe that most people see Quakerism as the strongest religious influence on Whitman– his mother’s family had Quaker roots and he was also influenced by a radical Quaker speaker named Elias Hicks. Much more to learn about than that easy answer, of course…
