Finding Whitman at Lincoln Memorial…

Uncategorized Add comments

So, I was kind of randomly in Washington D.C. the other night and had my digital camera with me (and my Whitman book as fate would have it)…I started thinking about Whitman’s obsession with Abraham Lincoln and the many poems he has written for him.  I read “O! Captain!  My Captain!” on the steps of the memorial with the beautiful statue of Lincoln glowing ominously behind me.  Having had somewhat of a crush on Lincoln myself growing up (yes, I realize how that makes me look), reading that poem on the memorial steps was actually a really moving experience for me.  I wanted to post this now, even though the quality of the video isn’t the best, to try and share my experience with you guys.  Hope you enjoy it.

    Hi Chelsea,
First I must tell you, as a huge coffee addict/lover, I love your picture.
I really liked this post. I worked in DC for a year when I was your age. I visited the monuments every time someone came to visit me from my home state of New Jersey. I really loved that part of DC. I too really liked Lincoln. The video you made was a great idea. Loved it!

I’ve been meaning to comment on this, Chels. The glowing statue behind you is excellent. This is fantastic. As I said in my post called I Love The Man Personally, my own crush on Lincoln is no light matter. I don’t think this video is feeding into our youtube page or the feed on our course page– maybe because it didn’t get tagged ww20? Ask the Reverend about it to make sure it doesn’t get buried in other posts.
