Photos
These are all the photos I’ve compiled while doing research. Photos taken from other sources will be appropriately credited.
- A Map of the houses on Cranberry Street around 1870
- A Picture of the Library in the Brooklyn Historical Society.
- A section of railing on the staircase.
- Another shot of the stairs.
- A shot taken as I was leaving.
The majority of the pictures are of land conveyances from the Brooklyn Historical Society detailing the ownership of various plots of land on block # 216 otherwise known as Cranberry Street between Hicks Street and Henry Street.
There are also some pictures of the Historical Society’s Library. Though it has nothing to do with Whitman, I felt the woodwork in the building was worth mentioning. Though it was common in the time the building was built for wood made objects of any kind to be intricately made, the practice died off as less and less people became carpenters. On a side note, it would probably cost a small fortune to have bookcases like that made today.
