It’s definitely interesting to see what you think would stick out to you were you to be suddenly transported to the nineteenth century, and I love the way you’ve incorporated our class discussions into the poem.

This reminds me, actually, that a writer named Octavia Butler wrote a science fiction novel called Kindred that involved a woman from 1976 (the time when OB wrote the novel) who was suddenly transported back to the 1820s. What complicated that journey was that the main character was African-American, so waking up in a slave-holding society was extremely problematic in all sorts of ways.
