A lot of the reason is because I’d started to forget about this Whitman. In the UMW class we’ve been focusing on the civil war period and I’d started to lose sight of the Whitman who reveled in nature and found solace there rather than the Whitman speaking of blood and death, as powerful as his Civil War poetry is, it’s also a different tone. I appreciate the reminder, I missed him.
