Song of Dragan
This face is a lifeboat;
This is the face commanding and bearded . . . . it asks no odds of the rest;
This face is flavored fruit ready for eating;
This face of a healthy honest boy is the programme of all good.
LoG, 1855, pg. 84
And the one I also like and just had to post:
O Captain! my Captain! our fearful trip is done,
The ship has weather’d every rack, the prize we sought
is won
O Captain! My Captain!, 1887

…this series of powerful images reminds me of Whitman’s love of photography– and his forward-thinkingness about the impact of consecutive images in his catalogues. Dragan, I see a cool visual montage of the boat, to the bearded face, to the apple… hey, what about that mtv video for Peter Gabriel’s “Sledgehammer”?

Hi Dragan,
I’m in the Walt Whitman Class at Rutgers University Camden. In New Jersey and I just wanted to say Welcome! and that I really liked your frontispiece. Very powerful imagery! Great start to what I’m sure will be a great blog.

hi dragan,
i am in the citytech class looking for whitman, i just had a question
about why did you chose common’s picture, the quote is great, but i dont see the connection with common, aside from the small facial hair common has.

Hello
I just had to find a picture to attach and this one seemed cool just because of the “This is the face commanding and bearded . . . .” and because I am Common fan and his face just seems to be telling a story itself!
I wanted to attach my own bearded picture from my profile, but prof. Karen said that it’s scary, so I didn’t want you guys to find me scary
Thanks for your comment, and for a Common reference!
