Clara Barton Barbie?
September 27th, 2009
Hey Whitmanics, I found this today while doing some research for my oral report-
That’s right…Civil War Nurse Barbie. Note the complete medical kit, the shiny white apron and, of course, the golden smile.
Now, for a little contrast-

WHAT?! To repeat, WHAT?! As I have said before and will say again, oh. my. walt. Your juxtaposed image really works beautifully. I don’t know if you’ve made my night or ruined it, but thanks for the truly excellent find.
AHHHGGHGHGHGHG omg–that’s insane! I love it, it must have been encouraged by the United Daughters of the Confederacy?!?! Crazy!
WOW! Very interesting, thanks for putting this up!
Oh dear. She looks like a combination cheerleader-Super Woman-Victorian candy striper.
Oh, this is -painful-. I like her quaint background with the lone cannon. The soldiers are where..?
It’s especially funny in light of the fact that over and over again the people who worked in the hospitals said it was the older (i.e., not just not-as-cute but more experienced, world-weary) women who made the best nurses.
I hope that medical kit has a large bottle of whiskey.
Of course, “hottest” is not a term we use when recommending someone’s professional ability. Anyways, maybe they just forgot to situate her in the context of “deluded pre-Bull Run nurse Barbie.”
I don’t think medical care is the type of “service” this nurse provides. Red lipstick? Um…. If she really is a nurse, I think her two tools should be 1)a saw and 2)[as Erin L. says] a bottle of whiskey.
Pop culture rears it’s beautifully ugly head, I love it.
this is cool and interesting, thanks for post it up.
